Details

A young couple visiting the national museum are fascinated by the preserved body of a monk from the 9th century. They wonder what kind of man he was – surely a monk dedicated to illustrating a holy manuscript….

As they gaze at his face we travel back to the monastery he lived in and see the same man, Brother Finn, working on a manuscript. He is interrupted by another monk, Canus, and is summoned to see the Abbott. The Abbott must go away on business for the monastery and leaves Finn in charge of protecting the monastery from the marauding Vikings.

Finn uses the opportunity to further his own work with the help of a woman from the village, Sorcha.

But when the Vikings arrive Finn must choose what exactly he is trying to protect.
